Starting and finishing near the Lagg Hotel NR955216, this walk takes you through a variety of habitats where you should see a range of birdlife in a couple of hours. The walk is on rough paths and road. Parts can be slippy after rain. Appropriate footwear should be worn. The walk can be done in reverse.

From the Lagg Hotel walk across the river and take the track beyond the former shop and the house on the right. The river is worth checking for Dipper and Grey Wagtail and the gardens and broadleaf woodland are good areas for finches, including Bullfinch, thrushes and tits.

The track through the wood opens up as you approach the chambered cairn with scrub land on your right and farmland on your left. There is a herony in the woodland and it is good for woodland birds including Treecreeper. In summer the woodland edge is good for warblers including Willow, Chiffchaff, Whitethroat and Blackcap. Previously Yellowhammer bred in this area.

Round from the chambered cairn go through the gate into the field and follow the hedge down to the stile that takes you to the shore. Check the hedge row for passerines including Linnet.

On the shore the mouth of the Torrylinnwater is on your right. There is a small gull roost there. Walking the shore to the Torrylinn track scan the sea for Shag, Cormorant, Gannet, as well as sea ducks including Eider and Red-breasted Merganser. On the shore itself Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover and other waders are worth looking out for.

The Torrylinn track back to the main road goes through scrub and then between hedge rows with fields on either side. In winter this can be a good area for Redwing and Fieldfares.

Where the track joins the main road, turn left and follow the road back to the Lagg Hotel.  The latter part is again through broadleaf woodland and back over the river.
